Crumpets are a popular British food so I was happy to see that you can get hold of them in the US. For those of you who haven’t heard of crumpets they are basically a small savoury griddle cake made from a batter containing water or milk, flour and yeast.
I bought a pack of six crumpets by Sharrock’s from Whole Foods. This brand is fat and sugar free and with no cholesterol. Crumpets are great for breakfast, lunch or as a snack.
Arya likes her crumpets grilled or toasted and then butter melted on top and served with a hard boiled egg and avocado. This literally takes only a few minutes to put together and tastes great. You can try experimenting with different toppings.
For dessert I have served plain whole milk yogurt with a drizzle of honey and a handful of blueberries. Such an easy and delicious meal with a combination of textures. This would also be ideal for baby led weaning – remember to omit the honey for kids under one.
